After the customer completes the checkout an order is created in Shopify.
Depending on the individual logistic workflows of each merchant the time to edit an order, specifically the address, is limited. At some point the shipping address of the Shopify order is fetched from the ERP system / third-party-logistics partner to fulfill the order. With the fulfillment workflow in progress, it wouldn’t make sense to make changes to the shipping address in the Shopify system.
Therefore, we introduced a setting that merchants can configure a time limit for how long the shipping address can be edited after the order was completed.
